Spring is in the air: it smells like mud, we’ve already seen people wearing shorts & flip flops (!), Easter is in 2 weeks and it’s daffodils season (in England at least; sadly, here it’s daffodils seasons in flower shops only. Who pays $4 for a handful of flowers when in England you could just steal a bunch on the side of the road for free? Me, probably, if I had extra cash to spend!). Another thing that tells us that winter is almost over: yellow is everywhere (to the left, the swatch shown is Mimosa Yellow, Colour of the year in 2009)! I love this colour; it’s vibrant and warm.
If you scroll down, you will see screenshots of two e-newsletters that I received in my inbox today, a few hours apart. At first glance I almost thought that I was receiving the same email twice.
Looks like yellow is a trendy dining room colour this spring (good to know because I am in “decoration mode”, having recently moved to a new place)! It also looks like my old time favourites such as grey, white & Helvetica are still a good match, which is always reassuring (that makes me sound so boring, but really, as you can see below, that particular combination does look great, especially when paired up with a flashy colour to accentuate the details).
I particularly like the look of the Tribe kitchen table sold at CB2…
Going back to “yellow” and to the fact that it is one of my favourite colours of the moment (that reminds me of my old days working at Starbucks… there were little tacky signs that we had to put on certain muffin trays that said “Muffin of the Moment”. Another of Onward-Howard’s great ideas I suppose…) I put together pictures of yellow things that I like, that I own/would like to own and of an online magazine cover page that we designed a few months ago. As you can see, Yellow Car Design was well ahead of the yellow trend!
Vick.
