I came across this website – http://kuler.adobe.com/ – a little while ago but didn’t take time to experiment with it much… However, yesterday was a rainy bank holiday so I chose a few pictures taken during the past summer and uploaded them to my Kuler. Kuler is actually a free tool (simply create an account) by Adobe that allows you to create colour themes from your chosen images. You can then save these themes, share them with people (the “Kuler Community”) and download them as .ASE files that can be added to your Adobe application’s swatches panel. Yes, we can all use our little eyedropper tool in Photoshop or Illustrator to directly chose our swatches, but there’s something nice and cool – and let’s say it, a little bit of laziness can be welcomed in your busy schedule - about asking the random Kuler to do it for us! We can also tell Kuler what sort of mood we want (deep, colourful, etc.) and it will influence the colour scheme. To have various colour themes saved somewhere comes in handy if you have a client who wants a certain atmosphere reflected in a logo/poster/brochure/etc. Simply find an images that inspires that atmosphere, and tadammm: Kuler will give you a good starting point by identifying a scheme that can work for you! Then you can take it from there, stop being lazy and do your designer work.
