Steve, Desmond & Bobo

Hockey season officially kicked in yesterday at Yellow Car Design with the first match between our 2 rivals, les Canadiens de Montréal (Vicky’s team) and Toronto’s Maple Leafs (Marc’s team).  Marc obviously thought it would be hilarious to make a photomontage of the mascots as Maple Leafs players, AS IF they were supporting that team! Our readers would remember that he did the same thing last year when he pretended that poor Steve was a Leafs tuque-wearing fan (click here)! Anyways, despite the rudeness and offensiveness of that picture I think it is very well done and thought it was worth posting on The Blog…  Just remember that the mascots aren’t Leafs fans!

How happy would you be to receive that nicely crafted box of presents? Very happy I’m sure! I took that photo for fun before sending it (for fun + for the fact that with the postal services you never know if a parcel is going to reach its destination… better have a proof that yes, we did bought presents for everyone!). Taking that picture made me realize how great baby blue and dark red go well together, and how it should officially replace green and red as the usual Christmas colours. Anyways, just a thought!

Cadeaux de Noël

Aimeriez-vous recevoir cette belle boîte pleine de cadeaux? J’imagine que oui, elle est tellement bien décorée (ahah!). J’ai pris cette photo pour le fun (et aussi pour avoir une preuve que oui, nous avons acheté des cadeaux à tout le monde! Après tout, avec la qualité du service postale, on ne sait jamais si un colis va arriver à destination ou non…). En tout cas, cette photo m’a fait réaliser que bleu ciel et rouge foncé vont vraiment bien ensemble et que ces couleurs devraient remplacer la combinaison habituelle du rouge et vert en tant que couleurs officielles de Noël. Bonne idée non?

Christmas Minous

Today’s blog is sort of related to yesterday’s post, as again it is about illustrations for kids and again, it has something to do with my mum’s daycare.

See, the other day I was bored so I drew a cat with a big black pen. Then I thought it would be nice for my mum’s little protégés to “draw inside the lines” (after all, colouring was MY favourite pass-time when I was a kid!) so I made copies and send it by mail to their attention. They were thrilled, and all coloured their cat in grey so it would look like our cat Bobo (they’ve never met our cats – we live in Toronto, they’re in Québec – but they’ve seen many pictures). The next day, they asked for a picture of Steve, our other cat… Very demanding little kids! So of course, I had to draw a “Steve” and send copies over. You can see their artwork above. They’re really proud and I think they’ve done a great job!

Illustrations de minous

Mon blog d’aujourd’hui a quelque chose à voir avec celui d’hier: encore une fois, c’est à propos d’illustrations pour enfants et ça a également rapport à la garderie de ma mère.

Voyez-vous, l’autre jour je n’avais rien à faire donc j’ai dessiné un chat avec un marqueur. Puis, j’ai pensé que les amis de la garderie aimeraient sûrement le colorier (après-tout, le coloriage était MON passe-temps favori lorsque j’étais enfant!), donc j’ai fait des photocopies que j’ai par la suite envoyées par la poste. Les ami(e)s étaient très contents de recevoir du courrier adressé à leur noms! Ils ont tous colorié leur chat en gris, pour qu’ils ressemblent à notre chatte Bobo (les amis n’ont jamais rencontré nos chats – nous habitons à Toronto, eux au Québec – mais ils ont vu plusieurs photos). Le lendemain, ils ont demandé s’ils pouvaient avoir un dessin de Steve, notre autre chat, à colorier… Assez exigeants merci! Biensûr, j’ai dessiné un “Steve” avec plaisir… Vous pouvez les voir ci-dessus, posant fièrement avec leurs chef-d’oeuvres. Je trouve qu’ils ont vraiment fait du bon travail!

Baby Bunnies

When I first saw the picture of my cousin’s little girl in that cute little pyjama, I couldn’t resist: I had to put it in a photomontage, no matter what! Putting her in a field with some other bunnies was sort of an obvious choice given the way she is dressed. The look on her face— semi-angry, semi-sad, semi-’in-your-face-stupid-rabbits;I’ve-got-the-carrot’ is way too adorable! And so are the ‘real’ bunnies: the one on the left reminds me of our cat Steve and the one on the right reminds me of our other cat, Bobo (both has featured in many of our photomontage, as shown here). Anyways, the result is something quite colourful, a bit Easter-esque but it’s okay, that makes people smile/chuckle/laugh (and the mum loves it!).

Petites lapines coquines …

Lorsque j’ai vu cette photo d’Alexy-Ann, la mini-fille de ma cousine, je n’ai pas pu résister: je devais ab-so-lu-ment l’utiliser dans un montage-photo! La placer dans un champs avec d’autres lapins était un choix évident étant donné le petit pyjama de la puce sur la photo. Son air semi-faché, semi-triste, semi-”kin toé maudits lapins, c’est moi qui l’a la carotte” est vraiment trop adorable! Les ‘vrais’ lapins sont eux-aussi pas mal cutes. Celui de gauche me rappelle notre gros minou Steve, et celui de droite me rapelle notre petite fille-minou Bobo (les deux sont fréquement les vedettes de nos montages). En tout cas, on peut dire que le résultat est assez coloré, fait un peu pâques mais c’est okay; c’est rigolo et la maman a aimé le montage, donc c’est le principal!

Rick Mercer Report

Nevermind the “Daily Star-esque” title of this blog post… It did actually happened! See, there is a weekly CBC show broadcasted all across Canada called the Rick Mercer Report. It is a review of the week’s current affairs and an exposé of Canadian stuff (this week featured the Pembroke Pumpkin Festival… where they actually use a pumpkin as a boat and race across a river. Every autumn. Huhum, good stuff). Anyways, every week they post a picture of a known person (usually a politician) and the viewers can download it and create a photomontage, then submit it on the website www.rickmercer.com. They choose the 3 bests and show them during the show and… you’ve guessed it: Marc’s ‘artwork’ featuring Harper the young piano player was shown, live on TV, to our great surprise and excitement!!! And yes, I might be a bit bias, but I’m sure that people applauded the loudest when our photomontage was shown! Marc was, of course, inspired by Stephen Harper himself, see the video here… Aww, how lovely. Thanks to Canada being such a large country with many different time zones, we had the chance to catch the Rick Mercer Report on the CBC channel of another province and were able to see our work shown on TV twice. Unfortunately, we do not own a VCR so couldn’t record it. However, it is now shown in the Photo Challenge Gallery of the show’s website, with Marc’s name. We’re very proud

Ahhh, le beau p’tit pianiste!

Il y a une émission à CBC (Radio-Canada anglais) qui s’apelle le Rick Mercer Report; c’est l’équivalent d’InfoMan avec Jean-René Dufort. À chaque semaine, l’animateur met la photo d’un politicien et les gens peuvent faire des photomontages drôles avec la photo et les soumettre sur le site web. Les 3 meilleurs sont montrés pendant l’émission… Et cette semaine, le montage mettant en vedette le Premier Ministre que Marc a fait a été montré! J’ai peut-être un parti pris, mais je suis certaine que les gens ont applaudis particulièrement fort lorsque le petit pianiste de Marc a été montré! Même si le nom des auteurs n’est pas dit en ondes, le montage apparaît maintenant sur le site de CBC, dans la gallerie des meilleurs montages photos, avec le nom de l’auteur. En tout cas, c’était notre petite seconde de gloire et on a bien rit!

Yonge Street Bikers

Here is a very simple formula: creative people + good Photoshop skills + boredom = crazy photomontage. We can’t talk for every studio, but here at Yellow Car Design our crazy photomontages tend to be starring our two mascots (as shown above). Let us introduce you to the mascots:

Union JACKet

First, there’s Bollocks (AKA Bobo), a lovely little grey girl cat. We recently found out that she is a British Blue cat and since then we’d like to get her a little Union Jack coat (just kidding).

Secondly, there’s Steve (AKA Big Bum), a charming & massive ginger hairball that is constantly craving for attention. Him and Bobo are brother and sister, even though they look completely different.

They are both very entertaining and the best adjective to describe them would probably be ‘doggy’, because they indeed behave more like dogs than like cats. But that’s how we love them and wouldn’t change them for anything! Back to the crazy photomontages, like I mentioned earlier they show Steve and Bobo in a multitude of situations, from driving down Yonge Street in a motorbike to buying baguette in Paris, from rockstar to tramp, and so on.

This post is showing only one of the montage, because if we’d put them all you’d probably think that we’re way too bored, way too cat-crazy, or both. From time to time though we’ll post the images because we do think that they are funny and worth sharing with the world!

Ce que font les designers graphique lorsqu’ils n’ont rien à faire?

Voici une formule très simple: gens créatifs + bonne maîtrise de Photoshop + ennui = photomontage fous. Évidement, nous ne pouvons parler pour tous les studios, mais nous chez Yellow Car Design nos montages ont tendance à mettre en vedette nos deux mascottes (comme ci-haut). Laissez-nous vous présenter les mascottes:

Union JACKet

Premièrement, il y a Bollocks (Bobo), une belle petite fille-minou grise. Récemment nous nous sommes rendus compte qu’elle est une “British Blue”; on aimerait bien lui faire porter un petit chandail avec l’Union Jack (joke!).

Deuxièmement, il y a Steve (Gros Derrière), une charmante et énorme boule de poils roux qui est constamment en manque d’attention. Lui et Bobo sont frère et sœur, même s’ils sont complètement différents!

Ils sont tous les deux très divertissants et le meilleur adjectif pour les décrire est sûrement “canin” car en effet, ils se comportent plus comme des chiens que comme des chats. C’est comme ça qu’on les aime, et nous ne les échangerions pas pour tout l’or du monde! Pour en revenir aux photomontages fous, comme j’ai mentionné plus tôt ils montrent les mascottes dans une multitude de situations: en moto se promenant sur la rue Yonge, à Paris avec une baguette, de rock star à sans-abris, etc.

Périodiquement, nous allons poster nos montages. Un à la fois… car sinon vous allez penser que nous n’avons vraiment rien à faire!
